The award was collected by homeowner, Harry van Gorkum, and Dan-Wood agent, Sandra Doman, at the awards ceremony in London last week. Home to Harry and his two daughters, the house is a modified 1.5-storey design with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen/dining/living zone.

A coveted accolade in the self-build industry, the awards have been running for ten years with rigorous, impartial judging from architects, manufacturers and industry leaders.

Actor Harry moved back to the UK after 28 years living in Los Angeles. He knew he wanted to build his own home in Norfolk having enjoyed many childhood holidays there but had no idea where to start.

After some research he was delighted to discover that Dan-Wood could provide a full turnkey design and build package and could do everything for him to his specifications.

“Dan-Wood had so many choices with each turn-key price clearly listed that it was a deal-changer for me. The Dan-Wood agents guided me – a total novice – through the entire process. I was also able to easily keep within my budget.”

The Dan-Wood turnkey package includes the design/architectural drawings, manufacture and construction of the house structure, and includes external and internal decorating and finishes, heating and ventilation systems, stairs, sanitary ware, doors, flooring and plumbing. One aspect which isn’t included is the kitchen as there are so many kitchen choices that Dan-Wood prefers to leave this up to the customer. However, Dan-Wood does ensure that the kitchen area is pre-fitted with all necessary power and utility sockets.

Modifications to the standard designs are possible on all Dan-Wood homes, one of which was, in Harry’s case, to flip the house design 180 degrees to better suit the plot.

“There are loads of optional upgrades to choose from, but you always know that you’re in total control – while someone else cleverly project manages the whole process for you.  It was a win-win for me, and I’ve never lived in a more perfect home!”

The Dan-Wood Point 150E design, on which Harry’s house was based has now been enlarged to the Point 160.3E
